Young and alert colleagues in particular wonder how this can be.<br\/>I just finished a call about a new project <g id=\"gid_0\">that is supposed to increase OEE by 2%<\/g>. And now I see here, live and in color, how 50% potential (or more) remains untapped? And this during the day shift. All technical expertise is present.<br\/>Anyone who then goes looking for causes quickly discovers a whole bouquet of different reasons.<br\/>The changeover on Line A has already taken two hours longer than planned.<br\/>On Line B, cleaning of a component was forgotten and is currently being done.<br\/>The only technician who can service Line C is out sick.<br\/>The team from Line D is in training for a new tool that will definitely increase efficiency by 3%.<br\/>A quality defect was detected on Line E, which will be examined more closely by seven QM colleagues next Monday.<br\/>Two hours later: One more line is running again since the team from Line D returned.<br\/>When will the new tool also come for Line C? Hemming and hawing. The project application is still stuck in the third of seven approval stages. They are still waiting for the results of a test with different software before committing.       <br\/><g id=\"gid_0\">Idea: Post a notice at Line C \u2013 in case anyone asks the same question.<\/g><br\/>On the way back to the office, I wonder why Team E cannot actually fill in at Line C. The machines cannot be that different. I make a note of the question for the shift meeting on Tuesday. That will help with the next QM issue. Hopefully.<br\/>Shift handover is now taking place in the facility. Seven critical pieces of information are handed over. Two are not.<br\/>20 minutes later, the first machine on Line A stops. 20 seconds later, the rest of the line stops as well.<br\/>The service technician from the machine supplier cannot arrive until four days later.<br\/>20 minutes later, the system is running again.       <br\/><strong>Even if everything runs perfectly from then on, it will no longer reach its monthly target \u2013 a classic case of avoidable production downtime.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer h-30-15\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2\" style=\"color:#134a64\">The Knowledge Factor Behind Production Downtime<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer h-30-15\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the introduction of <strong>MADDOX<\/strong>, the handling of disruptions in final packaging at Rotk\u00e4ppchen-Mumm has fundamentally changed \u2013 entirely in the spirit of sustainable efficiency improvement. As soon as a disruption occurs, it is not only indicated by a signal light, but also displayed visually on a large touch panel. Employees click directly on the disruption and immediately receive suggestions for possible causes and the affected system component.<br\/>What seems like an absolute exception to young colleagues has long been accepted by colleagues with many years of experience as the way things are. Through various exchanges with other production facilities over the years, they have learned that the reality in their facility is not a special case, but that colleagues from other companies face the same challenges.   <br\/><g id=\"gid_0\">&#8220;You cannot force people to share their knowledge.&#8221;<\/g><br\/>We recently experienced many dialogues about how similar the challenges are, even across industries, at our network meeting on <g id=\"gid_1\">knowledge management in the manufacturing industry<\/g>. Even before the moment of commitment, it was clear to the 19 companies involved:<br\/>Many of the problems in daily production stem from the fact that the right colleagues lack the right knowledge at the right moment.<br\/>A prominent topic in the panel discussion was the question:<br\/>How can you motivate people to share their knowledge with others?<br\/>This represents the first major hurdle in knowledge management. The reasons why people keep their knowledge to themselves are varied:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;If I share all my knowledge, no one will need me anymore.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;I have 1,000 other things on my mind \u2013 no time to document.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Even if I write it down, no one will read it.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;I do not even know where to file it.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer h-30-15\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3\" style=\"color:#134a64\">How Do You Motivate Production Employees to Transfer Knowledge?<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer h-30-15\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also more subtle aspects.<br\/>In many conversations with technicians, the problem is that they are constantly called to disruptions.<br\/>Less visible is the <strong>psychological need<\/strong> to be needed \u2013 to be the hero who solves the problem.<br\/><strong>The core question is:<br\/><\/strong>How do you deal with such behavioral patterns so that <strong>knowledge management still works<\/strong>?<br\/>In many contributions, &#8220;leadership&#8221; was cited as a central factor \u2013 even though the specific recommendations varied.<br\/>There was agreement:<br\/><strong>Coercion does not work.<br\/><\/strong>Anyone forced to document their knowledge can package it in a way that makes it hardly useful to others.<br\/><strong>Instead:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take individual concerns seriously<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate with empathy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highlight the specific <strong>benefits for all parties involved<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer h-30-15\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4\" style=\"color:#134a64\">Avoiding Production Downtime Means Making Knowledge Accessible<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer h-30-15\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the network meeting, it was clear to everyone:<br\/><strong>Good knowledge management is not a nice-to-have, but a must<\/strong> \u2013 if you want to sustainably prevent production downtime.<br\/>Only <strong>centralized, structured access to relevant knowledge<\/strong> enables quick action at the critical moment.<br\/>Perhaps next time Line A will only be down for four minutes \u2013 and the monthly target will be achieved.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer h-30-15\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;We all face the same problems.&#8221; Daily Life in Production: When Everything Goes Wrong at Once When you walk through your manufacturing facility and less than half of the production lines are running, frustration and disbelief are usually not far behind.
